Turnips are not the flashiest of the root vegetables, but they are versatile and robust in flavour. They can be eaten raw or cooked in a number of different ways, including mashing, roasting or stewing. The famous Roman philosopher, Pliny the Elder, considered turnips to be one of the most important foods of his time, and he may have been right – turnips are high in fibre, anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory agents vitamin K and omega-3 fatty acids.
